The following people contributed to The Northern Pomona, Apples for Cool Climates:

Peter Blackburne-Maze is a leading expert in the cultivation of fruit; he began his horticultural career in commercial orchards. The author of many books, for the past thirty years Peter has been a horticultural consultant and garden writer, contributing regularly to the Journal of the RHS, The Garden, Country Life, and Amateur Gardening; he was the specialist writer on fruit for Garden News for over twenty years. M.Hort., a Fellow of the Institute of Horticulture, and a Royal Horticultural Society judge, Peter serves on the RHS Fruit and Vegetable Committee.
Richard Borrie is a website developer and apple enthusiast, based in Yorkshire. Richard grew up with apples – his mother worked in an old orchard in Hertfordshire – and is always keen to try out different varieties, old and new. He is the editor of www.orangepippin.com, a website about apple flavours, and a partner in a website design company, www.amarsys.co.uk.
Bridget Gillespie. Following a degree and professional career in graphics, Bridget first turned to botanical illustration when asked by a friend to paint her wedding bouquet. In 2002, she was awarded a Gold Medal by the Royal Horticultural Society for a series of plum paintings, two of which now reside at the RHS Lindley Library in London. Bridget paints from living material on cotton rag paper, using fine quality watercolours. She teaches botanical illustration and lectures on the history of botanical painting.

Lin Hawthorne, Editor, is a writer, editor and Head Gardener of an estate garden in North Yorkshire, where she cares for two orchards, one old, one newly established with traditional apples. She has written many books, was the author of Last Words in the journal of the Royal Horticultural Society's Journal, The Garden for five years and the contributing editor for cultivation on The New RHS Dictionary of Gardening, and on The RHS A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants. She qualified as a biologist in 1976 before becoming a gardener in Northumberland and at Harlow Carr, later gaining a Higher Diploma in Horticulture in 1989. (Photo: copyright RHS).

Dr Elke Laver is a former diplomat and author of several cookbooks. Her special interest is the history of food. Her passion for, and international experience of cooking inspired her to compile our comprehensive collection of apple recipes from apple-growing cultures across five continents, spanning two thousand years. She has included many of her own recipes.
Barry Potter has worked and lectured in horticulture since graduating with a BSc Horticulture from Wye College, Kent, in 1968. He taught commercial fruit production at Writtle College, Essex. Since the early 1990s, he has been a specialist consultant for DEFRA’s Countryside Stewardship Scheme and has developed training schemes in orchard restoration across Yorkshire and the North East. He is currently involved in therapeutic work in orchards with social enterprises for people with special needs. Barry is actively involved in Apple Day Events. He is a founder member of York Natural Environment Trust.
